Fresh Filtered Water on Tap

Your guide to filtered water (and how to drink more of it!)

Family on the table drinking clean water

We’ve heard it all…

“I’m just too busy to think about drinking water all day…”

“How much water do I really need? What about the kids?”

“I love my WFA filtered water, but sometimes I want something more…”

We all know that water is an essential part of life, but do you really know the facts? We’ve created a helpful guide on filtered water to give you the real deal on how much you need to drink plus some handy ways to make sure you and your family are drinking enough.

Why is water important?

There are no two ways about it – water is an essential part of life. You may not realise it, but our bodies heavily rely on water to function. Here are just some of the reasons our bodies need water:

  • To aid digestion
  • To help us absorb nutrients from our food
  • To help us flush out waste (and prevent constipation!)
  • To support cell growth and reproduction
  • To protect our organs and tissues
  • To lubricate our joints and help us move
  • To regulate our temperature
  • To transport oxygen
  • To help beat tooth decay (WFA keeps the fluoride in water to keep teeth strong and healthy!)

Not drinking the right amount of water for your body can lead to a range of nasty issues including dehydration, kidney stones and even certain types of cancer.

So, go and get yourself a glass of fresh WFA water right now. We’ll wait. Don’t have a system yet? Find the best home water filter for you.

DID YOU KNOW? A person can live weeks without food, but only about three days without water, depending on their overall health.

So, how much water do you need?

The amount of water that you should drink depends on a multitude of factors including your activity level, age, metabolism and size.

The government-funded service healthdirect suggests the following:

“As a general rule, men need about 10 cups of fluids every day and women need about 8 cups (add another cup per day if you are pregnant or breastfeeding)…children need between 4 cups (for 1-year-olds) and 6 to 8 cups per day (for teenagers). In Australia, 1 cup is equivalent to 250ml.”

DID YOU KNOW? Kids and older adults are most at risk of dehydration.

Is there such a thing as ‘too much’?

WFA-Drinking too much water

Well, yes. Drinking too much water can lead to a dangerous condition called hyponatremia where the levels of sodium in your blood can become too diluted. This can lead to issues such as headache, nausea, vomiting and more severe problems.

While everyone is at risk of hyponatremia, some of us are more likely to experience it. Read our blog post about water intoxication to learn more.

Ways to drink more water

WFA-Ways to drink more water

Drinking the required amount of water your body needs can often be a bit of a chore…no matter how tasty your WFA water is! Here are some ways to help boost your intake…

Download a habit app

A great way to ensure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day is to download an app. Yes, really. Most habit apps not only help you sort out how much water you should be drinking, but they also send reminders to your device and give you handy tips and tricks along the way. Read our blog post on the best apps to track your water intake to find the best one for you.

Upgrade your water

WFA filtered water tastes great, but sometimes it’s nice to jazz things up a little. Fill a jug straight from your tap, pop in some fruit and enjoy. You can add all sorts of fruit to your water including berries, lemon, lime, pineapple and even coconut. You can also add veggies (cucumber is a WFA favourite) or fresh herbs such as mint, basil, rosemary and lavender.

Got your own personal concoction you swear by? Share it with us on Facebook.

Break out the bubbly

A quality carbonating system can be a great way to add a little something extra to your glass. Great for the family and perfect for entertaining, it’s a proven fact that adding some sparkle to your water can help you to drink more of the good stuff. Read our blog on putting some fizz in your water to learn more.

Invest in a great water bottle (or three!)

Owning a good quality bottle is a great way to take your WFA water with you when you’re out and about (and remind you to drink it!). We suggest keeping a large 1L bottle for home, grabbing a smaller, lightweight bottle for travel.

Kids are more at risk of dehydration than adults, so it’s extra important to sort out their water habits early. And yes… filtered water is just as beneficial for the little ones as it is for us! Here are a few tips to guarantee the kids enjoy the fresh taste of WFA as much as you do:

  • Start the habit early – The earlier you expose your kids to the habit of drinking water, the better.
  • Get them involved – Encourage the kids to fill their own bottle so they’re part of the process.
  • Set up a reward system – Sometimes, kids need an incentive. Create a simple reward system so they get a ‘prize’ whenever they finish their glass/bottle of water.
  • Travel with your water – Make sure to take a bottle when heading out and about so the kids have access to the fresh stuff on the go.
  • Set a good example – If the kids see you choosing water over sugary drinks, they’ll be more likely to follow suit.
  • Make sure that your tap water tastes good and you have fresh, filtered water available 24/7 with an inline water filter system.
