Fresh Filtered Water on Tap

10 Simple Ways to Help the Environment

WFA - Used plastic water bottle washed up on the shore

When it comes to looking after the environment, we all play our part. And you don’t have to go off the grid to make a difference.

When we all make small changes, they do add up. Here are 10 simple ways you can help the environment.

1. Cut down your shower time

Reducing your time spent in the shower can help conserve precious water. Every minute you reduce your time in the shower can conserve 5 litres of water. Every drop counts.

You can also invest in a water efficient nozzle head for your shower, which can help save on the amount of water you use. Not only are you doing your bit to help the environment, the bonus is you will also save money on your water bill.

2. Stop buying bottled drinking water

WFA - Piled up garbage of single use waste food

Drinking single use bottled water is costly… both to you and the planet. Producing just one plastic bottle requires a huge amount of fossil fuels, energy and ironically…water!

You can enjoy great tasting quality water for less by filling your own reusable water bottle from your home water filtration system. By installing a home water filter, you will end up saving hundreds of dollars each year and helping to reduce your carbon footprint.

3. Separate your rubbish properly

Tonnes of waste that could be recycled ends up as landfill every year… simply because people don’t properly dispose of their rubbish.

Take the time every day to check the label on the package or product before putting it in the bin. It will help reduce landfill waste and give your recyclable products a second life.

4. Compost your food scraps

Composting your food scraps, like fruit and vegetables, is a great way to help the environment. It reduces the amount of waste you put into landfill. And it delivers you with an endless source of enriched soil… that you can use to keep your plants healthy. It’s a win-win!

5. Use LED lights

LED lights are super energy efficient. They use less electricity and last longer. Reduce your electricity usage and save on your electricity bill. It’s a no brainer!

6. Use reusable bags

Many of us have made the switch to using reusable bags at the major supermarkets. But we shouldn’t stop there. If you are out and about or shopping for other goods – bring along your reusable bags.

Every plastic bag that doesn’t end up in the landfill is helping to keep harmful plastics out of the environment – and preventing potential harm to wildlife, marine life or vegetation.

7. Switch to a reusable cup for beverages

Did you know that in Australia 2.7 million disposable coffee cups are thrown out every day?

That’s a lot of waste going to landfill or, worse, ending up in nature. Switch to using a reusable cup for your hot or cold beverages and you will be doing your part to help the environment and keep our planet healthy.

And making your own tea or coffee at home is a fraction of the cost, helping you to save money and reduce your carbon footprint. Using filtered water can improve the taste and quality of your daily coffee. Your coffee won’t have any of the nasties found in unfiltered tap water and it’ll have none of that horrible chlorine taste.

8. Meat-free Mondays

Animal agricultural and industrial fishing have a detrimental effect on the environment. That’s why eating meat-free meals one day a week can make a world of difference.

Consider whipping up a yummy vegetarian or vegan meal for the family instead. And not to bang on about it, but using filtered water in your cooking is a great way to enhance the flavours of your food.

9. Recycle or reuse your rubbish

Recycling your used bottles can be a great way to give them a second life… as well as earn some extra money on the side. Take your plastics, glass and aluminium to a local recycling station or centre to cash in. Look at the label on the bottle to make sure it’s suitable for recycling.

Or there are plenty of creative ways to reuse plastic bottles. Make a necklace out of plastic bottle tops. Use leftover glass jars in the kitchen by refilling with various condiments or other foods such as rice, pasta or sauces.

10. Pick up rubbish

WFA - Pick up rubbish to protect the environment

Single use plastics are convenient for a minute but too often end up as litter on the side of the road or in our ocean and waterways. You can help by picking up a piece of rubbish or plastic anytime you are out in nature… whether it’s a local park, beach or nature reserve.

Drinking filtered water at home doesn’t cost the planet

At WFA, we believe that we should all play our part to help the environment and keep our planet healthy for decades to come.

Drinking filtered water can help reduce our impact on the environment and deliver a source of water that is healthy, free from nasties and tastes great.
